Our good friend Ryo Maeda 6P, and a fellow pro from the Kansai Ki-in, Koyo Hoshikawa 3P, will be visiting the Seattle Go Center next week, on their way to the Go Congress in Minnesota.

On Tuesday, July 28, they will be playing simultaneous games in the afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m. There may be more simultaneous games in the evening, depending on how they are feeling after their long journey. The fee for a game is $10.

On Wednesday, July 29, Maeda Sensei will give a lecture at 7:00 p.m. He is one of the most popular lecturers at the US Go Congress, and we highly recommend this evening at the Go Center. [ Read more… ]

The Nihon Ki-in has organized another excellent “Training Camp” in Tokyo.  The full event runs from August 21 – Sept. 3, but you may also select week-long sessions as well.  Instructors include Michael Redmond, Ishida Yoshio,  and Feng Shiung (“Kuma”).  [ Read more… ]

The Seattle Go Center will be closed for the 4th of July (Saturday).  However, we will be open on Sunday, July 5, for our Monthly Ratings Tournament.  Registration is between 10 and 10:45, and the third round should finish around 5 pm.  More info on our events page.

This weekend May 16 & 17, we will be at the University District Street Fair, reminding our neighbors about the Go Center, demonstrating the game, and teaching beginners.

Paid private Go lessons are now available at the Seattle Go Center on Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Sundays.  We will continue our extensive program of free group lessons on other days.  Private lessons are great if you want to commit to an individualized program of instruction.  Our teachers are well qualified for the levels they teach, and they are committed to finding effective ways to improve your game. We will be teaching  and playing  Go for three days in the “Asian Games” room at the amazing Sakura-Con 2015 festival in downtown Seattle. You do not need a festival pass to join us. We will be in room 305 of the Washington State Convention Center,  the same as last year, near the escalator.  We will be there from 10 am to 10 pm on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, and from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday, April 5.  There will be a 13×13 Tournament on Sunday, starting at 10 am.

On Thursday evenings at the Go Center, from 6:30 – 8:30, Carlos Encalada is ready to teach both complete beginners and more advanced beginners.  Zei Wei will be his teaching assistant.  This is a great time of the year for beginners to arrange a sequence of lessons. [ Read more… ]

We will be open our regular hours on Saturdays (1 – 7) and Tuesdays (1-10) throughout the holiday season, with the exception that we will be closing early on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 5 pm.

None of our classes are meeting during the holidays, and we will be closed on Thursdays as well. Nick’s next class will be on Monday Jan. 12, and Andrew’s next class will be on Wed. Jan. 14.
